Ah, it's February, the month of love.  And guess what? There's an oil for that! In fact, there are several. There are oils for love spells, oils for aphrodisiacs, oils to boost libido and oils for attracting love.  I guess this is the perfect month for it, so let's talk about it! What can essential oils do for your love life?

We can blame Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, who is the source of the word Aphrodisiac.  An aphrodisiac is, of course, is a substance used to increase sexual desire in men and women.  Aphrodisiacs increase the libido, increase potency and increase sexual pleasure. Aromatherapy gives us some great ways to achieve this.

Essential oils can stimulate the nerve receptors. These nerve receptors then communicate with the brain via neurotransmitters. The neurotransmitters go on to stimulate the production of the "feel-good" hormones and can relax the body or energize it.  It can also improve sexual function and the blood circulation which increases physical performance as well.

What are these oils that can be used for aphrodisiacs, you say? Turns out some of the best are:

  1. Black Pepper Essential Oil.  The reason for this is because black pepper essential is enhances libido and stimulates blood circulation. It also helps keep sexual organs in good health. It is known to relieve sexual tiredness and to help increase performance.
  2. Rose Essential Oil. Rose oil is known for mood enhancement, to help with depression and to help with sexual dysfunction. It stimulates the sex organs and has a soothing, calming effect. Rose oil relaxes muscles and acts as an aphrodisiac as well.
  3. Ginger Essential Oil. Ginger, known as a sexual tonic, warms up the senses, stimulates nerve receptors and helps with erectile dysfunctions.
  4. Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil. Known as the Queen of Flowers, it relaxes the muscles and regulates blood pressure. The oils in Ylang-Ylang help dilate blood vessels which improve blood circulation. This is a great oil for both partners.

To enhance your sex drive with these oils, start by applying a couple of drops to your hands and rub onto skins.  This will increase body temperature and produce a warming effect. Another idea is to use carrier oils for lubricants.  Make sure they are natural oils, such as Macadamia oil, Jojoba oil, and Argan.  These make for wonderful massage oils.

A caution about massage.  Never use the oils on the ears, eyes, nose, mouth or genital area. This can cause burning. Also, if using a condom, be aware that essential oils can cause the rubber to rupture.

I hope your Valentine's Day is filled with love and essential oil!  Enjoy!
